AMERICAN WEST HERITAGE CENTER VISIT

David SidwellSteve DeLong On Friday, February 1st, I had the pleasure of visiting with Steven DeLong, Executive Director, and David Sidwell, Program Director of the American West Heritage Center in Wellsville, Utah.

The AWHC sits on a 275-acre site that includes theJensen Living Historical Farm in the beautiful Cache Valley of Northern Utah. Their website is www.awhc.org. You simply must visit both the website and the American West Heritage Center if you are interested in historical preservation, for they are a local and national treasure and are at the vanguard of our state's efforts to preserve our pioneer roots.

The pictures included show Steve and Dave, the Welcome Center built in 2000, a few of the structures on the Jensen Living Historical Farm, and a few of the herd of bison that lives on the farm.

Steve and Dave and their dedicated team of staff and volunteers have created
a year-round program of educational and participatory activities that will delight
all ages. We will be partnering with the American West Heritage Center to provide
programming to them, and to take advantage of their educational programs to
teach us how to better interpret our past. Two of the AWHC's upcoming programs
are of note: on Saturday, February 23rd they present a Volunteer Orientation at
11:30 AM where you will learn the basics of historical interpretation at a heritage center.

Then on March 14th and 15th, the AWHC hosts the Intermountain Living History
Re-enactors Conference. The prices are incredibly low ($12 per person, $45 per
family) to encourage family participation, and include three light meals!
I'll see you there!

UPHA is creating an 75-minute historical musical show called "The

Frontier Fest Saturday, June 14th 2008. The show will be presented at
12:00, 2:30, 5:00 and 7:30 PM that day. Five of Utah's best

stories known only to the former occupants of the cabins now located
at Gardner Village. Watch this website for previews of some of the
music!
